Counterfeits, replicas and dupes

Every piece on Jelly is the real thing. What that means, what Unbranded is for, and what happens when a piece is not authentic.

On this page

Every piece listed on Jelly must be authentic. Counterfeits, replicas, "dupes" and other non-authentic branded pieces are not permitted. A piece may reference, show or be listed under a brand only if that brand made it or authorised it.

There is no way to list a fake by saying it is one. Writing "dupe" in the title does not make a piece listable. It is how we find it.

What is not allowed

  • Counterfeits: anything that carries or imitates a brand's name, logo, trademark or protected design without that brand's say-so, or that is made to look genuine when it is not.
  • Part-genuine pieces: real components combined with fake ones, or a piece altered to look like it came from a brand.
  • Misleading proof: a receipt, an authenticity card, packaging, a serial number or a product image used to suggest a piece is genuine when it is not.
  • Pricing that implies authenticity: putting a fake at or near the genuine piece's value.
  • Saying one thing in the listing and another in messages, either way round.
  • Relisting a piece we have already removed as not authentic.

What is allowed

Authentic branded pieces. Genuine, listed under the brand that made them, with your own photographs of the actual piece.

Genuinely unbranded pieces. Original pieces that carry no brand name, logo or trademark and are not made to imitate a specific brand's product. List these as Unbranded: it is a choice in the wizard, beside the brand list. An Unbranded piece may not name a brand as its inspiration or use a brand's trademark anywhere in the listing.

Describing the cut or the era is fine. Naming a brand it imitates is not.

> Fine: "1990s slip dress" · "minimalist leather tote" · "nineties-inspired satin midi" > Not fine: "Pucci inspired dress" · "Chanel style quilted flap" · "Zimmermann dupe"

If a word like "replica" is genuinely part of the piece's own name (some brands use it), write to info@onjelly.com and we will sort it out with you rather than guess.

Your part

You are responsible for knowing whether a piece is authentic before you list it. Jelly can ask you for proof of authenticity on any listed piece at any time, and can pause or remove the piece while we wait. Not knowing does not stop us refunding the renter, removing the listing or limiting the account.

Keep the receipt. Adding a piece to your closet asks for one on a high-value piece for exactly this reason.

If a piece you rented or bought is not authentic

Report it. Open the order, report an issue, and choose not as described: there is a reason for authenticity on it. Do it within your reporting window, with the photos from your condition report.

If a piece is found to be counterfeit or not authentic as described, you are refunded in full, the lender earns nothing on it, and the lender may be charged what it cost Jelly to put it right.

If you see a listing that is not authentic and it is not yours, report the listing: the report sheet has a reason for it. Reports are confidential and we do not tell the lender who reported them.

What happens to a listing

Depending on what happened and whether it has happened before, Jelly may:

  • remove the listing, and a removed piece cannot be listed again;
  • ask you for proof of authenticity, and pause the piece until it arrives;
  • issue a formal warning on your account;
  • restrict your account from listing branded pieces (you can still list a piece as Unbranded);
  • suspend lending, renting, payouts or account access;
  • review the rest of your closet;
  • close the account permanently.

Repeated violations can close an account. So can a single one where there is deliberate deception, faked proof of authenticity, several misrepresented pieces, or relisting something we removed.

If someone is using your brand or your pictures

That is a different door: see the takedown route in Community guidelines.
