Cleaning
The lender cleans between rentals and prices it into the rental.
Cleaning is the lender's, and it is priced into the rental. She cleans the piece between rentals the way she would clean anything she owns, and she sets her price knowing that.
If you are renting
You are not asked to clean a piece before you return it, and no cleaning charge arrives afterwards. There is no cleaning fee at checkout and none after the rental.
Do not clean or repair a piece without asking the owner first. Never dry clean a rented piece unless she has explicitly asked you to. A wrong treatment on a delicate fabric turns a mark into damage, and damage is a different conversation. The full list of what never to try is in Looking after a piece.
If a piece arrives dirty, say so on the order before you wear it, with a photo. That is the lender's to put right, not yours. See Not as described.
If you are lending
Clean it before it goes out. A piece that goes out dirty is a full refund to the renter and the delivery both ways can land on you. See Sending a piece out.
A piece that just needs cleaning is not damaged. Deodorant marks, a light washable stain, a little creasing, a scuff on a sole: that is a garment that has been worn, and it is normal wear. See If a piece comes back damaged.
