What signing up needs, how the ID check works, and every setting you can change.

On this page

Signing up takes a phone number, a code, your name, your date of birth, a zip code and your sizes. Your phone number is also how you sign in: you type it, we text you a six-digit code, and you are in. There is no password. You can look around without an account at all (Browse as guest) and sign up the moment you want to book, save, make an offer or message. You must be 18 or older and living in the United States. Your sizes put the pieces that fit you first (nothing else is hidden), so give it more than one if you sit between two. Change them any time in the app under Settings → Fit profile (it is also on your Closet, under Manage closet), or on onjelly.com under Account → Profile.

Right after your details, Jelly offers the ID check: Verify now, about two minutes, or Later. Later is fine: browsing and saving never need it, and Jelly asks for it only when you book or list. More under Verifying who you are, below.

A street address is asked for later, at the moment it is actually needed: booking a courier or shipped rental, or sending one out. A zip code is enough to sign up and browse, and it can be anywhere in the US: it is what Shop uses to show you the pieces that can reach you.

Your handle is your address on Jelly: it is what appears next to your first name, and it is where your public Jelly boards live. Letters, numbers, dots, dashes and underscores.

Verifying who you are

Everyone on Jelly verifies her ID, before she rents or buys and before her first piece goes live. You do it once:

  • Renting or buying. You verify before you book, for a rental or a purchase, whatever the piece is worth. Making an offer counts: you verify before you send one. Bookings you already have are not affected, and extending a rental you already have never asks.
  • Lending. You verify before your first piece goes live. A piece you list waits until you have, then goes live by itself; pieces already live stay live, and editing one never asks.
  • When you sign up, or any time after. If you choose Later, Jelly asks when you book or list, and not before.
  • Once you are verified, that's it. You are not asked again, and a pink Verified seal sits beside your name wherever it appears.

How it works:

  • It is a government photo ID (a driver's license or a passport) and a selfie matched against it, run by Jelly's verification provider. Jelly tells you what is collected and asks for your yes before the camera opens.
  • Both are taken with your camera at the time. A saved or uploaded picture of your ID is not accepted. On a computer, the provider may send you to your phone to take them.
  • Jelly's systems never store the document or the photo. Jelly receives only the outcome.
  • Browsing, saving, following, messaging, Jelly boards and asking Mona all work before you verify.
  • Five attempts, then it goes to a person.
  • Lenders are also verified by the payment processor when you set up the account your payouts go to. That is a separate check: it does not stand in for your ID check before your first piece goes live, and it does not earn the Verified seal. Only the ID check does.

Verification is about you, not the piece. A piece is live as soon as you publish it, and you are responsible for what you list; see Adding a piece to your closet.

Changing your details

  • Email: the code goes to the new address and nothing moves until you type it back. The old address is told afterwards.
  • Phone: verified by a code, the same as signing up. It is how you sign in, so when it changes, the email on your account is told, whatever your notification settings say.
  • Profile: photo, bio, and your Instagram, TikTok or Pinterest handles, which appear on your closet as soon as you save them. The Verified seal is separate: it is how other members know Jelly has confirmed who you are.
  • Sessions: see every device signed in, and sign one out or all the others. Log out signs you out everywhere at once: the app and the website alike.

Notifications

Email and push, each with four categories: money · your orders · activity · what's new. Everything is on unless you turn it off. Money and order notifications are the ones worth keeping. Courier updates are always on: every step of a courier pickup and drop-off comes to your phone whatever these say, as long as your phone allows notifications from Jelly. See Courier delivery.

Newsletter is its own switch under Email, and it is off until you turn it on. Turning off Marketing turns it off too. Every issue has an Unsubscribe link at the bottom that works in one tap, without signing in, and it never stops the emails about your own rentals and account.

Leaving

  • Take your data with you at any time: a full export of everything on your account.
  • Deleting tells you first if something is in the way: an open order, an open claim, money owing, or a payment on an offer still being confirmed with the bank. Deletion removes your cards, unlists everything in your closet and drops your private records; a small amount is kept where the law or a payment provider requires it. See Privacy and safety.

One account per person, and it is yours: keep the codes we text you to yourself, and tell info@onjelly.com if you think someone else has been in your account.
