Lending from your closet
Sending a piece out
Clean it, film it, then book the courier or make the label, in that order.
Clean it, film it, then book the courier, and the order matters, because the courier cannot be booked until you have filmed.
The courier comes in a time you and the renter agreed. She proposes two-hour windows on her start date; you accept one or propose others, and marking the piece ready is what lets the driver be booked shortly before that window. See Changing an order.
Clean it first
Cleaning between rentals is yours and you have priced it into the rental. A piece that goes out dirty is a full refund to the renter and the delivery both ways can land on you. See Cleaning.
Check it over
A loose button now is a claim later. If something has changed since you listed it, update the listing before it travels.
Film it
A short video of the piece as it is going out: 10 to 15 seconds, shot in the app on the camera, never from your camera roll. A photo is accepted if you cannot film. You can film any time from the moment it is booked.
That record is the one that says what left your closet. Nothing else does that job, and both of you can see it. It is also what a claim rests on later. See Condition reports on your piece and If a piece comes back damaged.
Then book the pickup
Or arrange the handoff, if that is how you are meeting. Jelly books the driver and neither of you sees the other's address. See Courier delivery.
Label the package with the line the order gives you: the renter's first name and the order's reference, For Sophie · J-4K2Q9Z. You hear the moment the courier is booked, when it is on the way to you and when it has the piece, and the app lays out every pickup you have open that day, one by one, so the right piece goes to the right driver.
Or, if it ships, make the label
Your ship-by date is on the order, worked out from the speed the renter picked and the distance, and you are reminded the day before and on the day. Drop the parcel off with the carrier by then.
- Make the label from the order. It can be made up to seven days before the ship-by date. Before you make it you can upgrade the speed to give yourself more time; the difference comes out of your earnings on that rental, and the renter pays nothing more.
- Pack it in the parcel size on the listing, or smaller, and tick the box saying so before the label is made. The label was priced for that size; if the carrier measures a bigger or heavier parcel, its extra charge comes out of your earnings on that rental. Need a bigger size? Change it before you make the label. The difference comes out of your earnings. See Shipping.
- Print it and drop the parcel off with the carrier named on it: a UPS location or a Post Office. On a USPS label the order also shows a QR code: show it at the Post Office counter and they print the label, no printer needed. No printer on a UPS label? Most UPS Store locations can print it for you. Or schedule a pickup from the order: USPS collects for free; a UPS pickup's fee comes out of your earnings on that rental. See Shipping.
- A UPS parcel with transit coverage may have to go over a counter instead of into a drop box. The order says so when it does: hand it over at a UPS Store or UPS Customer Center counter and ask for a receipt, or, for a piece of $1,000 or more, at a UPS Customer Center counter (not a UPS Store) or to the driver on a pickup, and ask them to sign a high-value shipment summary as your receipt.
- The label carries the renter's first name, last initial and address, because a carrier cannot deliver without them. It is the one place you see her address, and she was told so before she booked. The sender line reads Jelly Shop.
- The carrier's first scan is what sends the order on its way, and you can both follow it on the order. See Shipping.
Ship by the ship-by date. A piece that arrives too late to wear is refunded to the renter in full, and where it went out late you are not paid for that rental. See Refunds and cancellations from your side.
Pack it as you would want it back: garment bag, box, dust bag, hanger, shoe bag. Whatever you send it in is what you have asked for back.
Say what it needs. A fastening that sticks, a lining that catches: a sentence on the order is worth more than hoping.
If a pickup fails (a driver cannot get in, nobody is there) or a parcel stalls, raise it on the order. Courier and carrier problems are Jelly's to work. See When a delivery goes wrong.
