Approve each booking

A lender can review every booking of a piece. How Ask to book works, for both sides.

Most pieces on Jelly book instantly: pick your dates, Jelly it, done. A lender can choose instead to approve each booking of a piece. On those pieces the button reads Ask to book, and the lender says yes or no to every rental.

Renting one

Pick your dates and tap Ask to book. You send a booking request at the price the piece lists at for those dates, with your delivery chosen as at checkout.

A temporary hold goes on your card, not a charge. You are charged only if the lender accepts. If she declines, or does not answer in time, the request is declined, the hold is released and nothing is charged. She does not have to give a reason, and you can ask again for other dates.

She has until her offer window closes to accept or decline. The window is on the piece (24 hours unless she set her own). You can cancel your request any time before she does.

Accepted, it is booked exactly as an instant booking would be: the same price, the same delivery and the same terms. It appears in Rentals with every other booking.

Your dates are not held while you wait. Another renter can ask for the same days, and the first request the lender accepts takes them. If that is not yours, you are told and your hold is released.

Some lenders ask for more. A piece can ask that renters have a Clean record or a renter rating of at least a set number of stars. If you do not meet it yet, the piece says so (for example, "You can request once you have a Clean record.") and you can't send a request until you do. See Reviews and labels.

Lending one

Choose it per piece. In the listing's pricing step, or when you edit a piece, pick Instant book or Approve each booking. A new piece starts with your closet's default, which is Instant book unless you change it.

Or for your whole closet. In Closet policy → Bookings your choice becomes the default for pieces you list from now on, and Apply to all my pieces sets every piece you have at once.

Who can ask (optional). On a piece you approve, you can ask for a Clean record, a minimum renter rating (4.0+, 4.5+ or 4.8+), or both. Renters who meet it still need your yes. A verified ID is not something you set here: Jelly asks for it on its own rules (see Your account), and a renter who has verified carries the Verified seal on her request.

You see who is asking: her first name and @handle, the Verified seal, her renter label (Star renter or Clean record) and her rating as a renter.

Answer within your offer window. A booking request uses the same window and the same reminders as an offer, texts included if you have them on. Accept and it is booked and the renter is charged. Decline, or let it run out, and her hold is released. A request you let run out does not pause your closet, but it still counts as a missed answer for Fast responder and Star closet. See Offers on your listings.

Your minimum does not answer for you here. On a piece you approve, nothing books itself, not even an offer at or above your minimum: what you asked to review is the renter.

Selling is unchanged. Buy, and offers to buy, work exactly as they do on any other piece.
