Lending from your closet

Your closet settings

Every dial on your closet: away dates, delivery, offers, cancellations, fit refunds, late fees.

On this page

Every term on a piece of yours is a dial you set, and most of them are per listing rather than closet-wide.

Availability

Away dates. Block the days you are away and every piece in the closet is unbookable across them at once. Use it before you travel rather than cancelling afterwards: a cancellation costs you $20 and costs a renter her night.

Blackouts on one piece. A single listing can be blocked for its own dates without touching the rest of the closet: the weekend you are wearing it yourself.

Pause closet. "Not right now", with no end date to pick. It is on your Closet tab. A paused closet is hidden from renters and takes no new offer or booking; your pieces stay listed and stay yours. Letting an offer expire pauses it too, and Home then says which offer did it, with Update availability and Unpause closet. See Offers on your listings.

Delivery

Courier, Handoff and Ship are set on each piece. Every listing has its own Delivery type, and that is how the piece travels. A new piece starts with your closet's delivery methods, and you can change them on the listing. A renter only sees a piece if one of its methods can reach her. See Delivery methods.

Delivery Methods in your closet policy updates every piece at once. This will update the delivery preferences for all items in your closet. Save it and every piece in your closet takes those methods, drafts included. Ship goes only onto pieces that have a parcel size. A piece without one takes the other methods you chose, or keeps what it had if Ship was the only one, and the screen tells you how many pieces still need a parcel size.

Courier. Same day, inside New York City, for renters within about 15 miles. If your closet is outside New York City, it is off and says "New York City only".

Handoff. Offer to meet renters in person and the piece can go out with no delivery fee at all. It is free, it reaches renters within about 15 miles, and every other rule (the film at each handover included) is unchanged. See Handoff.

Ship. Turn it on and your pieces can go anywhere in the US. Ships with UPS or USPS, whichever prices that leg lower. The renter picks the speed and pays both legs; you print the label from the order and drop the parcel off by the ship-by date. Every piece that ships needs a parcel size on its listing, because the label is priced from it, and whoever ships packs it in that size or smaller (a carrier's charge for a bigger parcel goes to them). Your address goes on the return label your renter prints (the only place she sees it), with your first name and last initial; the sender line reads Jelly Shop. Nothing worth over $10,000 is shipped. See Shipping.

A new closet starts with every method its address allows switched on. A closet that was here before shipping arrived keeps the methods it had, so shipping is off on it until you turn it on, for the whole closet or on one piece.

Waive transit coverage. A shipped piece worth $1,000 or more travels with transit coverage on both legs (coverage Jelly buys for the parcel), and its cost is a line on your renter's total. Waive it, for the whole closet, and that line comes off her bill, and you carry the risk of loss or damage in transit yourself. It changes nothing else: damage and loss on a rental are still mediated, and there is still no cover band. A courier leg and a handoff carry no transit coverage, so the switch only touches what you ship. See Delivery methods.

Add transit coverage. On a piece that ships and is worth under $1,000, you can add transit coverage anyway, from its listing. Your renter pays its cost as the same line.

Money

Offers. On or off, per listing. With them on you can set the lowest amount you will take, and it works as an auto-accept line: an offer at or above it books on the spot, because you have already said yes to that number. It is never shown to anyone and a refusal never states it. You also set how long you have to answer, from 2 hours to a week, and 24 hours is the default. See Offers on your listings.

Cancellations. What a renter gets back if she cancels is yours to set, in two choices: Full refund up to (no full refund, until it's on its way, or 1, 2, 3, 5, 7, 14 or 30 days before the start) and After that (nothing, 25%, 50% or 75% of the rental price). The screen shows the words a renter will read as you choose.

Cancellations in your closet policy sets your closet's terms. Until you change them they are Jelly's default: a full refund up to 2 days before the start, then 50% of the rental price. Every piece uses your closet's terms unless you give it its own, from the piece's listing, where Use my closet's terms is the default. Changing your closet's terms changes every piece that uses them and none that has its own.

Whatever you choose, a renter is refunded in full within 2 hours of booking, and nobody can cancel once the courier has it, the hand-off is under way or the carrier has scanned it. A booking keeps the terms it was made under, so a change reaches new bookings only. See Refunds and cancellations from your side.

Fit refunds. Off by default. Turn them on per listing and you choose both dials: the percentage back, and the hours a renter has to report, anywhere from 2 to 25. It is your money either way, so the trade is yours to strike. See Fit refunds.

Late fees. On or off, per listing. On, the daily fee is the piece's price divided by seven, or by your rental period when that is longer. See Late returns.

Your profile

First name, handle, photo, bio, and your Instagram, TikTok or Pinterest if you add them. Your full name, email and phone are never shown to another member, and theirs are never shown to you. The only place an address appears is the label on a shipped order, for the person who ships it. See Privacy and safety.

Your rental and lending history. Two switches decide whether anyone can open Rented / Bought and Lent / Sold from your closet. The counts on your profile stay visible either way, and a row shows the piece and nothing else: no dates, no price, no counterparty.
