Finding a piece

Search, filter, photograph it, paste a link, or ask Mona.

On this page

Shop is search-first, across two things: Pieces and Closets. Requests live under Social, in Looking for. Type a brand, a piece, an occasion or a neighbourhood.

Filters narrow it to what can actually reach you: your size, your dates, brand, category and subcategory, colour, price for the period, neighbourhood, and Rent or Buy. Buy is its own tab, with its own search and its own price sort.

Pieces in your sizes come first (in Shop, on Home, in Social and with Mona), and nothing else is hidden. Tap My sizes in Filters when you want to see only yours.

Brands come from one list (one spelling, one page per brand), so a search finds a piece however its owner would have typed it.

By neighbourhood, and on a map

Neighborhoods on Shop lists every neighbourhood with something out right now, borough by borough. Tap one to see its pieces.

Map shows the same pieces on a map of the city. Each neighbourhood is a small stack of a few of its photos with its name under it, and "and more" when it has more than the stack shows. Where two neighbourhoods sit close together they share one stack until you zoom in; tap it and the map moves in until they part. Tap a neighbourhood's stack and every piece in it comes up along the bottom: swipe left and right through them, tap one to open it, or tap See all for the grid. Move the map and tap Search this area to see what is in view. Local and Nationwide on the map are the same choice as in your location. Your filters, your dates and your deliver-to zip come with you, so a neighbourhood shows exactly what you could book.

Pieces are placed by neighbourhood, never by address. A stack sits in the middle of its neighbourhood and no piece has a spot of its own, so the map says nothing about where a closet is, and it stops zooming in at about one neighbourhood across, before it reaches a street. The place printed on a piece is always the name of a neighbourhood, never a street. A neighbourhood with very few closets in it is counted under "Elsewhere in" its borough, so no single closet is ever picked out on the map.

On the website, onjelly.com/areas has the same list and the map.

Photograph it

Open the camera in the search bar and photograph the thing you want: a piece in a shop, a screen grab, a friend's dress. Jelly reads what it is and shows the closest pieces that can reach you and are free on your dates.

Nothing is armed by that search. If there is no match you are offered drafts and you choose: set an alert or post a Request. Each one is yours to choose.

Your photo is not kept unless you attach it to a Request, and the location and camera data are stripped before anything reads it.

Source this

The same idea from anywhere else: share a page to Jelly from Safari, paste a link, or send either to Mona. Jelly identifies the piece and looks for it in the closets that can reach you, and if nobody has it, offers you the same two doors.

Ask Mona

Tell her what you are dressing for. She reads the weather, the venue and your dates and comes back with a short edit of pieces that are genuinely bookable. See Mona.

When nothing has it

  • Set an alert and Jelly tells you the moment something matches. See Your wishlist.
  • Post a Request and lenders answer it from their own closets. See Requests.
