Requests

Ask the closets for the thing nobody has listed yet.

On this page

A Request is a post: this is what I am looking for, these are my dates. Lenders read the feed and answer with pieces from their own closets. It lives under Social, in Looking for, and it is where closets go looking for you instead of the other way round.

Posting one

A title and a few lines of detail. Add anything that helps: size, brand, occasion, neighbourhood, budget, the date you need it by, the dates you would wear it, whether you want to rent or to buy, and up to six inspiration photos.

Inspiration photos can come from anywhere: a shop's page, a magazine, a screenshot of someone wearing the thing you mean. You are describing what you are after, not offering a piece, so the ask that a listing carries a photo of the piece on you does not reach a Request. See What you can list.

Everyone can see it, including people who are not signed in. Your first name and handle are on it, never your full name, your address or your date of birth. See Privacy and safety.

How lenders answer

Two ways, and both are limited so a post cannot be spammed:

  • a reply, optionally naming a piece from her own closet;
  • a suggestion, which puts a live, bookable piece from her closet onto a shelf under your post, with a note if she wants one.

Anyone can vote a suggestion up. You cannot vote for your own, and the shelf can be sorted by what is most voted or by what is newest.

Nothing about a Request books anything. It puts pieces in front of you; you Jelly it in the normal way.

Closing one

When you have it, mark it found. The post leaves the feed and keeps its replies. A closed or expired post can be reposted (which re-dates it), but a live post cannot be bumped.

Mona can post one for you, and only when you say so in words, because a Request is public. Hers end on the day you need it by, or after two weeks if you gave no date; one you post yourself runs until you close it. See Mona.

Blocked members cannot reply to each other, in either direction, and neither is told.

An alert is the quieter version of this. If you would rather not post, set one and Jelly tells you when something matches. See Your wishlist.
