Lending from your closet

Discounts and promo codes

Run your own offer on your own closet. It comes out of your earnings.

On this page

A promotion is your tool for moving quiet inventory, and you fund it. Jelly names no percentage, suggests none and funds none.

What you set up

  • a title and the dates it runs between;
  • whether it comes off the item or the delivery;
  • a percentage off or an amount off;
  • your whole closet, or the pieces you pick;
  • whether it is for rentals, sales or both (rentals unless you pick otherwise);
  • and whether it applies automatically or as a code the renter types at checkout.

On a sale the promotion comes off the Buy price; a card shows your own price struck beside it. An offer to buy has to come in under that promoted price.

You fund it, always

A discount or a code comes out of your earnings, not out of Jelly's commission. Jelly's 20% is worked out on the list price and the whole of the discount comes off your side. That is the trade: you decide the offer, you carry it. A delivery discount works the same way: the driver is still paid in full and the difference comes out of your earnings. See Getting paid.

A leg your delivery discount paid for that never runs comes back to you. If the return never needs a courier, or a courier leg becomes a handoff, what your discount paid toward that leg goes back into your earnings, not to the renter, who never paid for it.

A promotion can take no more than you earn on the order. Your earnings are the price less Jelly's commission (20%, and at least $5 on a rental), and together your discounts and codes stop there: the renter pays the rest, and on that order you are paid nothing.

The rules of the mechanic

  • A code can be used once per person. A cancelled booking does not burn it, because nothing was bought.
  • One promotion at a time on a line. At most one applies to the item and one to the delivery on any order. Two discounts do not stack.
  • Offers still work on top, if you have them on: a renter can adjust an offer against a discounted price, and an accepted offer is already the total the promotion runs against. See Offers on your listings.

Dropping a listing's price tells the people who saved it. That is often the simplest promotion there is.
