Lending from your closet
Adding a piece to your closet
Photos first, then the details, and it is live as soon as you publish it.
On this page
The wizard opens on the camera, because the photographs are the listing. You need at least two of them to publish, and six is the most a listing carries.
What to shoot
The piece flat or on a hanger in daylight, the front, the back, the label with the brand and the size, the fabric close up, and anything wrong with it: a mended seam, a mark, a worn heel. A flaw in a photograph is a description. The same flaw found by a renter is a report.
Condition. Pick the grade that matches the piece: New with Tags, New without Tags, Like New, Good or Fair. Be honest about any wear, alterations or repairs. It shows on your piece's page.
Add at least one photo of the piece on you or a friend. A piece on a body answers the question a renter is actually asking, and the wizard reminds you under the photos.
Shop photos are fine next to it. A shop's, a model's or a press photo of the piece can go on the listing beside your own; renters like the detail a professional photo shows. A photo comes down if whoever holds the rights to it complains. See What you can list.
Or paste a link. Drop in the retail page the piece came from and Jelly fills in what it can: brand, name, description, replacement value. You check it and correct it, and nothing is published that you have not read. It fills in the words, not the photos.
The details
- Brand comes from one list, so a piece is findable however people spell it. If yours is not on it, choose Other and type it.
- Category picks the section it sits in, and a subcategory under that.
- Title says what the piece is, in at least ten characters.
- Description in your own words, in at least twenty: how it runs, what it is made of, what you have worn it to, and what time of year it is for: a lined wool coat and a linen slip are not looking for the same week.
- Size is the size on the label, in the sizing the rest of Jelly uses, plus your own height and your usual size, which is the fit information renters actually read. If it runs differently from its label, say so in the description: a piece listed at its tag size that fits two sizes smaller, without a word about it, is not as described.
- Tags are optional, and you can pick as many as fit: Wedding, Black Tie, Birthday, Vacation, Dinner, Work, Night Out, Showstopper, Cocktail, Business Casual, Trending and Vintage. The occasions among them are how a renter shops by where she is going, from the shop's Occasion filter and the occasions on Home.
- Replacement value is what the piece would cost to replace. It is the liability figure (the amount a renter owes if the piece cannot come back or cannot be repaired), and it is shown on the listing. It is not a cover band and it is not what you are paid.
Above $500 of replacement value you are asked whether you have proof of purchase or of authenticity. It is a prompt, not a gate: you can publish without it. You will need it if you ever file a claim on the piece. See If a piece comes back damaged.
Cancellations. A piece uses your closet's terms (Use my closet's terms is the default) unless you give it its own: a full refund up to a number of days before the start, then a share of the rental price or nothing. Renters read them on the piece and at checkout before they book. See Your closet settings.
Save a draft at any point and come back to it.
Publishing
Your piece is live as soon as you publish it. Jelly does not review it first, so you are responsible for what you list: that it is yours, real, and described accurately. Jelly can take down a piece that breaks the rules, which are below and in the Community guidelines. You verify your ID once before your first piece goes live. That check is about you, not the piece. If you have not done it yet, Jelly asks for it when you list the piece, and the piece waits until you are verified, then goes live by itself. Pieces already live stay live. The payment processor verifies you separately when you set up payouts; that does not stand in for the ID check. See Your account.
What may not be listed is in What you can list: counterfeits and dupes of any kind, and some categories that cannot be rented for hygiene reasons.
