Renting on Jelly

Extending a rental

Ask from the order; the lender approves, and the extra days are prorated.

On this page

Ask from the order and the lender approves or declines. It is one step, and it is always better than being late.

An extension is for once the piece is with you. Before it goes out, moving the dates is a change request instead, and the new dates have to fit inside what you paid. See Changing an order.

How it is priced

Prorated at the listing's own rate: the piece's price divided by its period, by whole extra days. A $280 piece priced for seven days extends at $40 a day. Your card is charged when she accepts, and the total is shown before you confirm.

No new courier fee. The piece does not move, so nothing is charged for a leg that does not happen. There is no extension fee, no minimum and no cap.

The lender decides

This is the one place instant book does not carry: a piece already in a renter's hands for extra nights is her call, and she may have it promised to someone on Saturday. Availability is checked when you ask and again when she accepts.

An unanswered ask dies at the order's current end date, at 23:59 New York time: the piece is due back that day, so the ask cannot outlive the rental it would extend. If it lapses, book the return.

Late fees

They stop for the days the extension covers. Anything already accrued before you asked stands. See Late returns.

If you are the lender

Declining is a normal answer and you do not owe a reason. If you say yes, the new end date is the one the return and the late-fee clock key off, and Jelly's commission applies to the extra days exactly as it does to the rental. The extra days are paid into your Jelly balance once the renter's payment for them has gone through. See Getting paid.
